As a young girl I absorbed science books and encyclopedias with excitement, always searching for some new source to learn from. At museums and zoos, I’d make my family stop by each placard so that I could properly sit with each new chunk of information. This project, The Five Biomes: Pop-Up Book, is an expression of that childhood wonder and joy I felt at exploring the world around me. The rhymes and images in the book were all created by me- first on paper and then digitally illustrated in Photoshop. Each prototype was hand-cut and assembled.

The Earth! A planet that we can share. Plants and animals living there. Full of environments we all call home. Each one known as a special “biome”.
The desert biome, so hot and dry. Water is precious. The sun beats in the sky.
The aquatic biome, covers most of the globe. Brimful with life, from blue whale to microbe.
The tundra biome, as chilled as can be. The soil is frozen! You won’t find a tree.
The forest biome, chock full of trees. Temperate or rainy, it’s sure to please!
The grassland biome, with wide open plains. Natural fires burn plants, and set it aflame.
